NEWS & NOTES

Week of September 20, 2010

29 Days Until First Tee Shot – Four weeks from tomorrow (Oct. 21st) the first tee shot of the inaugural Winn-Dixie Jacksonville Open presented by Planters will be struck…

A Pro-Am Sell Out – Before the Winn-Dixie Jacksonville Open presented by Planters is even played the tournament is being viewed a success.  A total of 108 pro-am teams were sold out by May, a feat any PGA TOUR-sanctioned event would be envious of.  Both Dye’s Valley and THE PLAYERS Stadium Courses at TPC Sawgrass will host the 432 pro-am contestants and 108 Nationwide Tour professionals on Wednesday, Oct. 20th.

25 / 40 / 60 / 100 – Important Numbers on the Nationwide Tour – The numbers 25, 40, 60 and 100 all have important meaning to Nationwide Tour players:

25 – The 25 leading money winners will earn their PGA TOUR cards for 2011.

40 – Players who finish 26-40 on the final money list are exempt into the Finals of the PGA TOUR Qualifying Tournament.

60 – The top-60 money winners are guaranteed a spot in the season-ending Nationwide Tour Championship at Daniel Island; they are also fully exempt on the Nationwide Tour next year in the event they do not secure their PGA TOUR card via the PGA TOUR Qualifying Tournament.

100 – Players who finish 61-100 on the final money list are partially exempt on the Nationwide Tour next year in the event they do not secure their PGA TOUR card via the PGA TOUR Qualifying Tournament.

The Winn-Dixie Jacksonville Open presented by Planters is the 28th and final full-field event of 2010.  The money list will be final for all players finishing 61st and higher, while the rest will go on to decide “The 25” and other things the following week at the Nationwide Tour Championship in South Carolina.

This Week on the Nationwide Tour – The Tour returns to Midland, Texas for the 19th consecutive year.  Midland Country Club hosts the WNB Golf Classic, which starts on Thursday.

Did You Know? – Winn-Dixie Jacksonville Open presented by Planters tournament chair Anne Nimnicht is the only person to chair events on the PGA TOUR (1997 PLAYERS Championship), Champions Tour (1999-2002 Liberty Mutual Legends of Golf) and now Nationwide Tour.
